Sis: Syracuse lost today.
me: so what?
sis: it'd just be nice if something nice happened today.
me: Well, I'm sure a lot of nice things did happen today. I had a nice day!
sis: oh yeah, someone got shot and is in critical...
me: and since when does our local news cover anything NICE happening? Or any such effort event that has anything to do with the betterment of society? It's stupid. It's empty. Win, Lose, my life is no different either way!
I am the only person in my family that could give a squat about sports. Any kind. Win, lose, tie, I don't care. It doesn't break my spirit. It doesn't leave me hopeless. Sometimes I might go to a game if offered tickets. I know what's going on and I cheer but it's so fucking unimportant to me that it disgusts me when people tell me that their day is ruined because someone dropped a ball and expect me to give a crap about it. If I have had any motto or driving desire in any sport its to do my best, challenge myself, and have fun. I invest myself in our society, not our sports. Sorry!
Who's the most surprising rookie in the NFL this year?
Wow, another qotd that I could give a shit about.
Which overly paid mass of muscle do I think is surprising? Hmm. Uh. None of them. Did they cure aids? End world hunger? Become politically active and back a cause worth fighting for? Begin an age of everlasting peace? Refuse to pay because of the outrageous sum of money they're paid? Yeah, I thought so. Silly me.
It just isn't my thing. I refuse to envy or pledge my undying attention to anyone who I believe really hasn't done anything worth deserving it. Maybe some of them are cool off the field. I couldn't say. I've yet to meet someone who could manage to make me watch it.
Who has been the most surprising player so far in the 2007 NFL season?
I don't fucking care. I fucking hate football. With a passion. The end.
What are your Major League Baseball playoff predictions?
I predict that one team will win and another will lose. I predict that I still won't care.
Do professional athletes make too much money, or do they deserve every penny? Why?
They make way too much money and people pay way too much attention to them. Why? Well, my sister's a nurse and she spends her day cleaning, helping, and making people feel better while they're probably having the worst time of their lives. She takes a lot of BS, she works herself into exhaustion, and she keeps at it each and every day -- there is no off season for her... She doesn't make a significant fraction of money compared to some of the jocks out there and she's got a lot more 'skill' than they do. Another one of my sister's works with the mentally handicapped and she has for decades. She insures their well being and and eases then and their families that the system is there to work for them. A lot of people, not only my sisters, work jobs that in comparison to these guys/gals, don't get compensated fairly enough. I can say the same for entertainers and musicians (not all of them) but the thing is, we determine these wages with our steadfast support, given in dollars. What would happen if people stayed home instead of seeing games? IF they stopped buying team endorsed paraphernalia and either saved it or put it to use supporting charitable causes or public education? What would happen if we were all pretty fairly compensated and we could all afford the necessities and an occasional perk? It's be interesting to find out, wouldn't it? I know.... This entry just really isn't very "capitalistic" of me, is it?
