I had family from all over the the country come up to visit my mom who lives about 2.5 hours away. My sister, who's probably the best driver I've ever driven with, decided to drive up with me on my first trip on the highway. The trip there was a little hairy since it was rush hour and weekend traffic. I saw every asshole pull every asshole trick in the book in front of me and a bit further ahead of me and I'm really happy I had someone there to guide me and pat me on the back for handling it well. My trepidation over doing this drive alone stemmed from my lack of experience dealing with people who, while going 70mph and failing to use directionals, decided to transverse three lanes of close traffic to make it to an offramp... Also, dealing with those other situations that make might have freaked me out if I were alone. It wasn't bad, I didn't do bad. It helped prep me for the ride home, alone, which I managed to do earlier today.
On the way home, an animal came very close to becoming my first case of roadkill: a coyote. It was small, thin, gray, had a long snout and large pointy ears. Too large to be a fox, too small to be a wolf. I was elated that he/she had enough sense to turn tail and run the opposite direction. I would have been broken up if I had to end up hitting and killing it. I was going 55 at the time. It was a small country road. I had traffic behind me. *sigh*
