Loyalty vs professionalism

Your preference VS the greater good

My job is to help my company and other companies achieve compliance, to stretch a net from east to west and make sure everyone has access to what we offer. We need to send things to others, we count on them to make what we provide available - no cost, no questions asked, only for the benefit of America. Easy job right? No, it isn't. humans are involved.

This effort has also been taken up my our competitor and they had gained a favorable foothold in policies and procedures. We were stuck in layoffs and mismanagement and now we're trying to catch up. Unlike any other offering we would fight tooth and nail over, this aspect of competition isn't really true competition. We don't ask the people who receive this to take either or. Both our companies don't even offer the same content, as a matter of fact, one compliments the other. In this scenario, it's not bad to have too much of a good thing because it's to benefit others and to make what we offer as accessible as possible.

Lately, I've been butting heads with reps that declare their loyalty to the other company and tell me point blank "we don't need your resources, we recognize brand x only!" and it's pissing me off. This scenario isn't too different from having a rich man walk up to you a few times and give you a $20. One day, another rich man comes and tries to give you a $20 and you refuse "I only accept handouts from person x". Yep, it's that fucking ridiculous.

"We don't have to", "we don't need your crap", "stop giving us this". Yes, it's that foolish. Want to know what's more foolish?

Both our companies consider this effort important and we've helped them access those we exclusively had access to. We are competitors, but in this effort, we're just trying to get our jobs done.

Be loyal to whatever exclusively involves yourself. For example "what deoderant are you loyal to, what barber are you loyal to, what brand of coffee are you loyal to? what serves "you" best?" Outside of any exclusive usage of loyalty, it can be immature, unprofessional and just stupid -- especially when you serve public interest.

I can't remember -- 2 months ago? I count driving to my sister's house in the burbs across the city as "out of town".

I'll be heading up north NY/near Canada this weekend though.

3. I'm the tallest of my siblings: 5'4"
4. My room is stuck in a time warp: circa early 90s. X files poster, film posters of events the radio station I interned at hosted, magazine covers -- Rollingstone.
5. I discard CD cases, keep art, keep the CDs in folders and spindles.
6. Thanks to a C64, I was exposed to some Basic.
7. I have two unopened bottles of water on my desk.
8. I still have books from college: geology, german, and various computer books.

Miley Cirus has issued an apology for a "racy" Vanity Fair photo shoot with legendary photographer Annie Liebovitz. Considering the photograph is just of Miley's back, do you think this apology is necessary?

Good question. So many people could apologize to this one. Billy Ray could apologize to his daughter for pimping her out. They could both apologize got her extreme lack of true talent -- but I'm too old to appreciate her. The magazine could apologize for not stopping to think for a moment. The photographer, I'm sure she made suggestions - the teen, I'm sure she felt a touch of temptation -- it's got to suck having the world trying to immortalize you at the age of 15, trying to bind up any sense of physical, mental, and emotional growth and her parents ... to any of you parents out there, how would you react to the idea of this spread? Finally, I think the press should apologize. They're still a bunch of sensationalistic fucking morons. If I see one more douchebag run up to a 9-12 year old and say "so, what do you think of these photos of Miley?" I may hunt them down and beat them myself. Does her fan base need to know? No! Would they have found out if it wasn't blown way out of proportion? Tell me, when was the last time a child begged to buy a Vanity Fair magazine?

People need to get a life and get in touch with what really matters.

Will the rising cost of gasoline change your summer travel plans?

Probably. I'll still drive. I have little choice in that. But it affects -everything- like the price of groceries and other things. I want to see my niece get married, that's in the Midwest. Airfare is just the beginning of my concerns.

QotD: I'm So Excited

What most excites you about the way you're living your life right now?

It's hard to get excited about anything. If my project at work turns out to be successful, I would be excited. If they offered me a full time position, I would be excited. If I made a wage people in my role usually would, I would be excited. If I had "my shit" together, I'd be excited. I'm working on that though.

I've been broken a a couple of times. I have gotten excited for good reason and nothing ever had become of it. My past career, 'girls' I thought I loved who ended up undeserving, the fruits of 4 years of hard work after going back to college, the loss of my father... Other battles and disappointments, ect. I just don't get excited with life. I have been living to see the end of one day after the next. If something good becomes of it, great! Otherwise, whatever.

I do get excited over stupid shit like cd releases and simple things. I feel excitement for others, but I've been burnt too much and so far as "faith that the good things in life will come", I've become a bit of an atheist.

But I don't wanna!

I have to go to work tomorrow.

This weekend was fucked up:
On Friday, the finally part for the computer came: The case.

I spent the entire day gutting an old computer, installing new parts in a new case. Installing windows, diagnosing installation issues. I didn't get to sleep until windows seemed to work properly. It was like 5am. Occasionally food and TV interrupted.

Saturday, I helped pack my mom's stuff up - she's up to camp for the summer. Then I was hunting down a battery back-up automatic voltage regulator. Got that, did dinner, downloaded and installed more software, kept it running, checked for issues. Passed out at 7pm and went to sleep not too long after.

Sunday, I went to the mall to get Mario kart. My sister said best Buy opened at 9am. They opened at 11,
I got the game, invited my nieces over for a few dozen matches. Finished the computer. Went out with my sister and the kids, delivered the computer, helped clean their den, set it up, gave tutorials. Watched some TV, At some food, rerigged my network.

Now I'm exhausted. I don't want to go to work tomorrow. I wanna sleep!
