QotD: Showing My Support

What are some charitable causes that you support or would like to support?

When I was young, my father was diagnosed with a form of muscular dystrophy called CMT, otherwise known as Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease. I would like to fund research in that arena. My mom also has done yearly door-to-door service to raise money for the American Cancer Society and since it's a disease that has touched/destroyed us all in one way or another. I've also given what money I can spare to support causes for Vera House and organizations created to help victims of domestic violence. I signed a petition this week to stop the seal hunt, the petition is HERE, if you feel like speaking out against it as well. I also drop money in the Salvation Army kettles around the holidays, one year I was a bell ringer. Instead of just standing and ringing, I danced and sang Christmas carols while ringing the bell.* I was praised by a worker from there, plenty of people, and managed to lure more people over. It was hysterical. If you're wanna help and see your help make a difference, throw yourself into it.

* You do know I'm a bit of a nut at times, right?

The battle today is finding out the dress code and the agency I got this job through has not gotten back to me with important information yet. I don't know what to wear, when to come in, and I guess they didn't get confirmation as to my employment. I sat and waited a while and 'sighed' a lot. Finally, I thought, "screw this, what the hell is wrong with me?" I've never had a problem getting answers by going straight through a non-responsive system and called the company's manager himself. I thanked him for the interview, the opportunity, and then asked...

"What's the dress code?"

It's business causal.

I hate shirt and tie. I usually have to buy shirts that give me extra neck room or I start pulling and freaking out at the closeness of a shirt. I just hate it. Also, tie = noose! Though, for some reason, I still like a nice tie. I also hate seeing people tie ties wrong, use ones that are too short, and buying cheater ties.

Time to run up some debt!

What's the infamous story people tell about you?

The best story would come from my best friend and the night we got bombed till we staggered to a taxi. The driver stopped two blocks into our trip home and picked up a crack hooker he knew. Not just any crack addicted hooker, but an old, trench coated, extremely smelly woman -- most likely the cabbies wife. She propositioned us once she got in. "Which one of you wanna bleep bleep bleep'n bleep first?" I fucking screamed at the top of my lungs, then screamed "GET OOOOOOOOOUT!" We laughed the rest the way home. There's another story concerning strippers and even thought we weren't in Vegas, I'm not tellin'.

Jack might have one of his own, when he figures out how to use Vox. It might involve screaming things out of car windows... Ya never know with that guy.

What a fricken day ...

Well, the job interview was today and since this has been the most exciting day I've experienced in a long time, let's start at the beginning!

I set my alarms within 5 minutes of one another last night. I'm FAMOUS for turning alarms off and going back to sleep... Almost each time I do it, I can't remember having done it. Luckily, for some reason, I woke up a 1/2 hour before either alarm went off but I decided I'd just lay in bed and relax before getting coffee, getting dressed and leaving. I discovered on the way out, decked out in my gold shirt, pants and gold stripped tie that it was a rainy day! Since my car's not on the road yet, I had to take a bus. On the way, I almost got leaped upon by someone's loose black lab who was quite excited to see me. I waved my arms and leaped out into the street screaming "NO ... NO ... GO AWAY! PLEASE!" Luckily, it's owner peaked his head out to call him and apologize. I said it was alright and continued at my usual hurried pace to the bus stop. The bus ride was uneventful.

Downtown, I decided that since I have "coffee breath" I'd get some gum. I stopped at a drug store and waited behind a man who was waiting for the clerk. The clerk saw us, but took his sweet ass time getting to us. He cashed the man out and when I got there, I was eying my possibilities while he decides to turn around and walk away as I made up my mind. He went on to fiddle with something at the far end, making damn sure not to make eye contact with me. Instead of chucking the pack of gum I wanted at his head I wanted, I just walked out, leaving the package right in front of his scanner. I walked to another shop I went to at the last job I worked. While I was there, the owner was greeted by a drunk man (at 9:30am) who asked for an application. The owner shouted "NO YOU'RE DRUNK, GET OUT!" I always liked the guy, but I liked him even more after that.

As I left the store, the sky open up and poured in buckets. I jogged, got to the company early and discovered it's 8 floors above my favorite sushi restaurant. Yum. The interview was short, lasting all of 15 minutes. Compared to any other interview I had ever had before, it was cake. There was a wireless keyboard and mouse sitting before me and when they said "that's it, we'll get in touch with you.." I replied, "seriously?" They laughed and I said "geez, you have this nice set up before me ... No quiz?" We talked a little more and parted ways. I didn't know what to expect. There were 5 people there, most of which asked something, I answered, it was over. With the rest of my time, I dodged raindrops and took a bus to meet my sister where she works and had lunch with her. Then I went back downtown, spent some time at my favorite record shop, bumped into some coworkers from my last career in TV, chatted and decided to go home. I had some time to kill, so I went to another drug store to peruse whatever they had on sale. When I was thinking about leaving, I noticed a guy who was acting strange dart for the door, a manager ran up from behind and nabbed him and chaos ensued. The guy was caught shoplifting and made a few attempts to hit, kick, squirm away, kiss, swear, spit, and howl away. He said the craziest crap I had ever heard from a person, calling the manager a pussy face, making lewd gestures at other people and trying to get away. The cashiers are trying to call other managers to get this guy restrained when I get a phone call from the agency that contacted me telling me I got the job. I had to leave the front of the store to hear her tell me but I'm trying not to laugh*, asking what questions I could remember while hoping this guy isn't going to run completely amok and get his hands on something sharp. Luckily, they subdue him, drag him to the back, and I'm able to go home. It was just, a pretty nutty day.

I start on Wednesday. I have practically nothing to wear. I don't know if its formal or casual. The last day is the end of June. I will be hearing more tomorrow, most likely while questing for clothes.

* - Flashbacks of cashiering at a convenience store sandwiched between two bars, also, just completely confused over everything going on and hopped up on 3 cups of coffee...

Tomorrow's almost here.

I have that job interview tomorrow and I am a little jittery. I've been interviewed many, many times and most of the time, I get the job. Sometimes I'm told I was one of two they wanted out of all the interviewed. I don't think I have a problem speaking, answering, and I keep my posture in mind. I also try my best to keep my eyes on who ever is interviewing me while offering a smile but it's just not knowing what to expect that slays me. Will they be technically heavy? Will they focus on me (which throws me sometimes)? Will the questions be stereotypical interview questions, causing me to laugh? Will I be ping ponged between three or more people simultaneously or shuffled from office to office? My first interview outside of college, I was interviewed by 7 people! The third time a different person asked me the same question, I laughed a little but I knew their game and as it happened, it wasn't a question I could really answer. It was something like "where do you see yourself in ..." or some variation. I thought I was trapped in some sort of Twilight Zone interview from hell episode.

Anyways, aside from all that ... I'm a little tense. I've had a little tiff earlier today and it really wasn't hard to get me riled. I hate that side of me. I also hate being riled. I also hated the other things that riled me. Have I mentioned I hate Sundays? As far as they go, this one wasn't bad... But I still don't like 'em!

Wish me luck. I'm going to get a job tomorrow.
