It isn't proper...

Did any hear about Iraq war/recon fund misappropriation?

I heard a snippet of news our local MyTV station plays inbetween shows called the washington news minute. Today the anchor spoke about how funds were misappropriated in Iraq... Surely, I'm certain everyone was as aghast as I was... Funds misappropriation? NOOOO! Why wouldn't an olympic sized pool be a necessity in the desert? I could go on at length about some of these details, but I really would rather not develop an ulcer today.

Wouldn't it be nice, shouldn't it be required that all of those FRICKEN parties involved be forced to repay these misappropriations from their very own money? I think so. Wouldn't be even better if all items paid for with our expenditures had to be approved by us? Seems fair. I'm held accountable for money I'd borrow to use with a specific purpose.

This is a scan of an old picture of my father taking a picture of my sister taking a picture of him. There's a few like this, but i haven't got them scanned in. Now, it looks really grainy because of the paper this was printed on and I ended up zooming in on him. I still like the way it looks though. He had this old camera a friend of his bought for him in Germany and around his neck he's got a light meter. He hasn't taken the picture yet and in the time it took for him to take a picture of us, we could have snapped half a dozen of him. :)

I pretty much gave up on trying to leap ahead of the flock a loooong time ago (2 decades ago? high school was unpleasant), for most purposes, I also stopped following. I won't say that I am a rabid anti-conformist, hell bent on scoffing at those who may be all consumed with trends but there have been times I could be mistaken as one... Mainly when I see people flock to a certain trend that makes them look utterly retarded because I know these things are costly, short lived moments of shame no one will admit to bowing to minutes after the next 'must-have' rolls on out. I buy what I like, I wear what's comfortable, and if that should just happen be what's hot, the thrill is lost on me.

I entered Vox's banner contest and for a fleeting second, I thought I had a shot. As more of the entries poured in, I realized I didn't. I'm not bitter because from what I see, I ran with some big dogs. I also used The Gimp, which is as much as I'll ever need, but it's still no match for a decent retail design program... A tablet would help too. So would some talent :)

Since I do enjoy futzing with Gimp, I'll be uploading and sharing more banners as I make them.

A bone to pick about picking bones...

A certain someone I live with and I had a conversation I wanted to end. It was concerning a lunch that was given to me: slow-cooked bbq chicken. Now, I admit that I'm spoiled by establishments that make it perfectly acceptable to binge at the speed of light and then completely regret not taking the time to thoroughly enjoy or even chew a meal. It's part of a problem I attribute to short, short lunch periods during public and parochial school. So, back to this chicken. As I popped some of it in my mouth, I noticed that I had just as much bone as I has meat... Each mouthful, even the most calculated had me chewing carefully and picking out bones of all sizes... At one point I turned with a distressed look stating that I thought I swallowed part of a bone. After, I was asked what I thought of the meal. I said that while the meat was alright, the meal was ruined because of all the bones I had to endure. Big bones, medium bones, which were completely obvious and avoidable, then the teeny tiny thin yet pointy rib bones. I said that serving it in this fashion is just a lawsuit waiting to happen. It seemed the party that asked thought I was absurd "because chicken has bones". (well... DUH, right?) My point is, even after I had realized this was a bony mess, I think I still managed to swallow what felt like, on the way down, a piece of bone. Now, call me crazy, but it's my opinion that if you're running an eating establishment, you might want to make an effort to keep your patron from choking or perhaps swallowing a bit possible of creating an opportunity for internal bleeding, right? Pardon me while I try to restrain my inner hypochondriac.

Of course, when I opened and began eating this, I thought I had a bunch of BBQ chicken thighs. I did expect bones, just not what turned out to be an entire chicken, hastily chopped to bits with bone fragments of all shapes and sizes.

So, for future references, from this establishment, I'll be ordering food prepared with veggies only or cold-cuts.
