I just got a notice that support for my router will be lapsing in a week. I haven't needed it so far... I was considering having it extended until I was brutally shocked by the cost to extend it. 6 months for $70 and 1 year for $90. OMG thanks! That much for something I most likely won't use. I think I purchased this router for about that much and then I paid $20 extra for a free replacement plan (I think that's whats up or is that up in a few months?) Either way, this is just another example, along with printers, some cell phones, and other things that illustrate how companies want a constant grapple on your check book - whether it be with a costly service or with a complete replacement at a comparable price. Insane.
Eh well, lucky I'm my own tech support!
How are you spending New Year's Eve?
I have a bottle of champagne chilling and waiting to be gulped down. I don't really have anything special planned. I can't say I feel like doing anything special or going anywhere where there are too many people. Specifically, too many people drinking. Rowdy people. Noisy people. I'm just not feeling it. So... Just me and some champagne. :) maybe some quiet reflection (I know, what's new there eh? meh. shut up! ;))
What was the best blog post you wrote this year? What was the best post or blog you read?
I have to pick one post of mine, of all 726 of them that I think is the best? There are less movies released each year and they have an academy to make those choices. I generally like any post I make where I get some interaction... That narrows this a bit. From that? Meh. I give, you choose for me.
As for best post or blog I've read? I hate doing stuff like that because I think everyone's had something to offer and no one should be or feel slighted. I nominate my entire hood. They're good people!
BTW, VOX: STOP DEFAULTING QOTD POSTS TO NO COMMENTS, PLZ? K! THX!
What was the best movie you saw this year?
I think I only saw: 28 weeks later, Harry Potter, Pirates, Fido, Spiderman 3, Bee Movie, Zodiac and Transformers...
They were all entertaining... For a serious film, I'd say Zodiac was the best.
Transformers was nice eye candy and it was entertaining...
28 Weeks Later tore my entrails out and played jump rope with them... It was very depressing.
Fido was quirky and somewhat entertaining.
Pirates pissed me the fuck off. It seemed rather pointless at times.
Harry Potter was alright.
Bee Movie was "cute", but I wouldn't have seen it on my own volition.
I wish I had gotten to see more movies.
What's the best photo you took this year? Show and tell!
While taking photos of some goldfinches, I noticed this robin from a distance. I whistled and made noises at it and it would run closer to investigate. I decided to move to the other side of this feeder and whistled to him/her once more. It flew up and perched for a closer look. It would make little chirpy noises at me from time to time as I snapped shots at it. You may find yourself wonder "what's with the funk on it's beak?" Well along with ensnaring worms, I would occasionally find this guy flying up close to the camp and snagging spiders and their webs. Would you believe they did it if I didn't tell you? it was pretty neat to watch and quite cool to have this bird take interest in me form time to time. I hope he/she's warm and well fed.
We saw this guy sunning itself while I drove by. I stopped for a closer look and to keep it from getting run over. When we tried to move it, it decided to warn us by striking this pose. We did get it out of the street and later I learned that it is a type of water snake whose venom contains an anticoagulant ... Fun!
I had to go back to work today and it was a tougher task than I liked it. I had to get up earlier to fetch up my mom's (our) cat Hailey (aka MAO) and take her to the vets to get spayed. It sucked because I feel that Hailey trusts me deeply and when I went in to my mom's room to get her, all I had to do was open the carrier door and she hopped right in. She was quiet most of the way there except for the last 15 feet she began to meow-cry. I know she knew where she was going. I feel bad because I feel like I betrayed her, but I'll feel happy because she now won't be able to get preggers, she won't go nutsy and get all weird... It's for the better, but I still feel crappy about it. I'll have to make up for it with toys.
Today was the first day my boss was able to come back to work. he had a broken bone and couldn't make it to the office for a few weeks, but he did work from home. I was happy to see him but really tired and bored stiff because it was slow. I got two calls of stuff I could not fix and him and I called it a day. Stuff I couldn't fix you asked? Yes. One had to do with a system that works with ours that I don't support (but I know the who(s) that do so I know where to point) and another I took my skills and what I had available to its extent and couldn't get any further. I needed a coder/developer and they all were away for one reason or another. b-o-r-i-n-g!
Since this weekend, I've been watching Naruto Shippuden at various sites on the web. I could not hold out until they were translated and rebroadcasted... I needed to see Sakura kick some Sasori ass and other very awesome developments. Next Christmas, I'm asking for boxed sets.
How are you spending Christmas Day?
I woke up and the first thing I did was run down and give my sister a gift from myself and 2 of my other sisters -- an ipod nano.
I received some gift and some gift cards from best buy which will probably go towards a wii.
Then my mom and I packed up out gifts and my sisters gifts and went to my sister's house out past the 'burbs. Traffic was ideal, meaning, there was none... The lights all were green, except one or two on busies intersections. We got there, followed by my others sisters and their families and we all started cooking. TBH, I started cooking LAST NIGHT but it took a few hours to 'assemble' the rest of my dish: peanutbutter chicken potstickers with sweet minty thai chili sauce... FOR TEH WIN! I browned the bottoms, then steamed them and served 1/2 of what I made (for some reason, I made too much... I tripled the recipe). I gave the meat mixture to my brother in law with instructions on how to make some and the uncooked potsickers I sealed away, to later be devoured at New Years...
My sister got my nieces that Nerf gun and dart game and after they went nuts with it, us adults did. It was all caught on tape and we were hilarious, yet pathetic. We exchanged gifts and left not too long after. I would have loved to stay longer, but I have to drop our cat off to be spayed tomorrow (sorry hailey) and then I have to wade through piles of crap at work. (UNw00t).
Merry Christmas :)
