Vox Hunt: This Album Is All Good

Comments

Yay! Two bands I really enjoy. I remember the first time I ever heard Portishead...I was riding the bus to school and my best friend swiped the CD from her older sister. I went home and made a tape (!) from the cd. Beautiful.
Gosh. I almost miss tapes and mix tapes. Getting tapes from friends. Taping tracks from the radio. Finding someone's lost or abandoned mix tape. I'm certain the same is true for cds and it's more the era I miss! Taping the perfect tape was an art... It took timing. If I let it go with too much dead air, I'd have to start again. Now it's select, drag, drop, click and it's complete! Which is fantastic because I can't really justify the time spent staring at a tape deck waiting to see if there's enough space! :D I think it was the one thing I was COMPLETELY OCD about. In high school, I had a bit of a crush on Janet Jackson, and loved her remixes (which kind of began to get boring after RN1814). I took the time to meld all the mixes off of a 12" Rhythm Nation album on a tape. I managed to beat match using the pause button on the tape deck and finding a match on the record. I was proud.

I saw M.I.A.'s video for Boyz. Such an awesome rhythm. Trust me I won't be stalling when buying that CD!
Yes! They were actual tapes, not cd's! I don't mind, but I do remember recording songs off the radio to make tapes to give to friends or to just have for myself. My thing was waiting for the DJ's to stop talking so I could get the beginning of the songs. And the agony when you would run out of space in the middle of a song! gah!!!

I'm actually searching youtube for the video now, because MTV doesn't show vids anymore lol. The new issue of RADAR has a really good interview with M.I.A. in it, I love her.
I'll have to check it out!

MTV, I know refer to as Empty V. Once in a blue moon, I might catch music on it, most likely something I'm not into though. It's depressing because VH1 doesn't play much music either. Their programming is vastly better than MTV, but now there really aren't any music video channels on analog cable where I live! Not even that one where people would call a 1900 number to request a video (the tube?).

We just got the Tube here, but the videos are "meh". Before 2000-2001, one of the most important aspects of the music artist was the video! There were so many good videos in the 90's! Now, I don't know if bands even bother making them.

(sorry your comments section is getting longer!)
No sorry needed, I like comments!

If I were a musician, considering the lack of venues out there... If I made a venue, it'd be low budget. I remember hearing how much TLC paid for Waterfalls before declaring bankruptcy... Considering what they end up making with some of these deals, the money is better spent in the studio.

The 90's were great for music videos. Only rivaled and maybe beat by the 80s (god I love some of those cheesy videos!). Videos offered a window into music and sometimes it was one of very few hints what some songs were really about. Videos were also the greatest conversation topic sometimes. Expecially when good bands were due out with a new CD and the video was going to be released before it. Ah... Good times!
