Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction...
6 Die From Brain-Eating Amoeba in Lakes
This line here, boggles me:
Yeah, it's so extraordinarily RARE that 6 people died from it. 6! THIS YEAR! That's hardly extraordinarily rare...
Even though encounters with the microscopic bug are extraordinarily rare, it's killed six boys and young men this year.
Bacteria strikes war's wounded
The local paper my mom gets posts these stories all the time. It's a wonder that people living in Northern New York venture outside! At the same time, I think of all the time when I took in a nice head-full of water swimming here and there. There was one time I did have a problem from swimming in freshwater and I had to take eye drops for a while. (I know ew). I just find news like this a bit more disturbing than the movies I enjoy watching from time to time, yet I would rather read about it and know it than never hear of it at all.
