The writer/director of Slither had never seen Night of the Creeps when he began coming up with the premise for Slither. In fact, he was inspired by numerous science-fiction and horror tales of hive-minded creatures and slugs such as Robert A. Heinlein's The Puppet Masters and a film he really liked called Shivers (1975) which appears to have influenced Night of the Creeps as well.

I like both Slither and Night of the Creeps (still no DVD for this film!), but one is not a direct descendent of the other. It's just One of Those Things.

The Puppet Masters was a good movie as well. I haven't read the book, but I bet the book was better.

I like films/books like this. Where the force isn't just some sick creature worthy of a nightmare, but also one that has intelligence and a plan. Another movie that seems similar to me was The Faculty. I haven't seen it in such a long time, I can't exactly remember what the carrier looked like. It was worm like, wasn't it?

I haven't seen Shivers... But I thought since it was along the lines of parasites and thought about Crawlers (I remember being sent to bed because it was on actually).

I guess it's a more popular theme now that I think of.

I can't believe Creeps isn't on DVD yet. It's such a great flick.

I saw Night of the Creeps ages ago on HBO and really liked it. It's got such a cult following, I can't believe there is no DVD release. You can get Killed Klowns from Outer Space in a Special Edition DVD, for fuck's sake, but not this movie!

Perhaps there are some rights issues holding it up; I don't know.

Killer Clowns. That movie was such a horrible riot.

When Mediaplay cleared out here, there were so many unworthy horror flicks they were dying to get rid of, flicks they would have to pay me to take... Then movies like Creeps and Night of the Comet completely miss the DVD radar.
