QotD: My Musical Influence
Which friend or acquaintance most influenced your taste in music?

When I was young, my youngest sister (older than me) used to be into The Police, Elvis Costello, Suzanne Vega, U2, and a lot of other rock acts I've followed since she's introduced me. Still, I have a taste in music that's distinct from everyone else in my family. I watched MTV when it played music, when I got older, I stayed up for 120 minutes, Amp and whatever other show might introduce me to sounds I've never heard before. If it sounded unlike anything I've heard before, I gave it a shot. I got into electronic music when I heard the chemical brothers, prodigy, fluke, orbital, FSOL, moby, Brian Eno, and others. I also had friends who were into Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, The Smiths, Nitzer Ebb, Consolidated, Front 242, and more that I had on "mix tapes". I have friends that work in various formats of radio ranging from jazz to ebm, industrial, and goth to heavy metal and they've introduced me to many bands I like. I like listening to and hearing new music, even if I dislike it, at least once. As much as I love new sounds, I also love a track with amazing lyrics. If you've got something to share, I'm all ears.
