QotD: Childhood Frights
What were you afraid of as a child that seems silly to you now?

I had to deal with a lot of fear in my life. It's hard differentiate the silly things I feared from the things had a right to fear. I would say nuclear war, but that never seems silly. My parents, devoutly religious told me that rock, or any music they didn't listen to, was the music of the devil. I remember liking some of it and fearing I was indirectly aligning with satan. That was silly. If it really was the gateway to darker things, I would have been locked in solitary and counting down the days to my execution.
As the years wore on, I learned it was more my father who believed that rock and pop were satan's music, my mom had to get a job and got a walkman to accompany her on the bus. Before I knew it her and I were listening and singing the same songs. Not too long ago, my father discovered a singer with a voice he couldn't resist... Celine Dion. Seemed what was once taboo crumbled the day he let her in. He didn't even really think about some of her lyrics, some of which were pretty racy if you really listen to it. Racy for him. His addiction for her drove us all nuts.
