News & Politics QotW: A Sobering Milestone

On Sunday, the U.S. death toll in the Iraq war reached 4,000. What is your reaction to this sobering milestone in this 5-year-old war?

Pure depression and helplessness.  What could I possibly say?  What could any of us ever possibly do to make up for this?  While this depresses me, I take into consideration the entire death toll.  I wouldn't call it sobering, it's horrifying.  We live on a weird planet, we wage wars for reasons that aren't as valuable as the lives that have been erased.  Dead 'enemies' can never learn.  You need to know that I understand war, I'm the proud son of a deceased multi war veteran.  It just hurts to think that so many people ceased to exist because of this.

I hope this comes to a resolution soon.  I hope peace can be achieved.  I hope, in the future, we're lead by governments that are wiser and more willing to seek alternatives to war.

Politicians... suck. Well, most of 'em. I hate to sound this way because it might imply I don't care and I don't vote. I do care and I do vote. I just think there's something wrong with 'politics' and certain people. I think it might help us all if it was near impossible to have a career in politics. It might help to create the means so anyone can complete, get air time, get elected and try to make a change. If it were viewed more as people who serve our country in the military view active service - to do it selflessly to protect and serve our country and not ourselves. They might talk a good game when they need to and sometimes things might look rather optimistic, but not often enough with all this 'us vs them' party mentality and scandals (you know, like our late governors scandals. I'm probably treading on dangerous thought here, eh? :)
